Purim - Feast of Esther - Feast of Lots - Mordecai's Day

So what's the Feast of Lots or Purim? The root word in Purim is pur, which means "lots." Haman was the Prime Minister of Persia at that time. He cast lots to see what day they would kill the Jews and the lot fell on Adar 13. God used Esther to intervene and He saved the Jews from genocide.

Purim is also known as 'The Feast of Esther', 'The Feast of Lots', and 'Mordecai's Day.' It's called the 'Feast of Esther' in remembrance of Queen Esther's banquet with the King. Its called 'The Feast of Lots' because Haman cast lots to determine the day the Persians would kill all Jews. It was called 'Mordecai's Day' in ancient times. Mordecai was the uncle of Esther, he convinced Esther to intervene with the King to save the Jews.

Why is faith important?

Why is faith important?

Why do we need faith?

  • Jesus told us to have faith. - Mark 11:22 - "Jesus answered and said to them, Have faith in God"
  • We are saved by faith. Ephesians 2:8 - “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”  Romans 1:16 - "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
  • We are baptized in the Holy Spirit by faith. Acts 2:38 - 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Galatians 3:14 -14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
  • We are made righteous by faith. Romans 1:17 - For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Sukkot - Feast of Tabernacles

Sukkot - Feast of Tabernacles

This is Gods 7th and last Feast its called the "Season of our Joy". Shortly after Yom Kippur people joyously celebrate God's love and provision.

Sukkot means booths and during this time the Hebrews slept in booths or shelters. Since it is the 7th feast and seven is the number for completion this feast represents the completed or finished work Jesus completed. This is the instruction the Lord gave during the Feast of Tabernacles: In Biblical days the shepherds erected booths for livestock in Genesis 33:17. Soldiers stayed in booths in 2 Samuel 11:11. Farmers stayed in booths Isaiah 4:6. It was celebrated again in Zechariah 14:16 and references the importance of reverence. Cains offering was rejected because he failed to show reverence.

Yom Kippur- Day of Atonment

Yom Kippur- Day of Atonment

It is the last day of the High Holy Days and the last day of teshuva (a 40 day period when people repent for sin). The word atonement means "to cover". On the Day of Atonement, the sins of the Jewish nation were covered by the blood of the sacrifice. The procedure is detailed in Leviticus 16. On this day the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies four times and he:

  1. burned incense
  2. sprinkles bull blood
  3. sprinkles goats blood
  4. he would retrieve the golden incense ladle

This is the only day in the Bible that required a day of fasting (Leviticus 23: 27,32; Jeremiah 36:6). Jesus fulfilled the Day of Atonement when He went into the heavenly Holy of Holies with his own blood and He fulfilled it with his own blood for the sins of the world. On this day:
